Enter one complete monthly period
Use gross card sales and charges from the same month. Convert multi-month figures first. Leave an optional cost blank only when it does not apply or you are deliberately excluding it; an unknown cost makes the result incomplete.
What each result means
- Effective processing rate
- Processing charges divided by gross card sales, multiplied by 100. It describes this statement period, not the quoted markup or a guaranteed future rate.
- Average ticket
- Gross card sales divided by processed transaction count. It helps explain the effect of fixed per-transaction charges.
- Normalized monthly checkout cost
- Processing charges + software + other monthly charges + annual recurring charges divided by 12. Avoid counting the same fee twice.
- First-year planning scenario
- Twelve times normalized monthly cost, plus one-time setup/equipment. This assumes activity and fees stay unchanged and excludes costs you have not entered.
A low percentage does not settle the decision
Two statements may reflect different channel mixes, ticket sizes, card types, refunds, annual billing or seasonal activity. Separate account costs, software plans, hardware ownership and cancellation obligations. Review the full written proposal before deciding whether a change solves your problem.
Interchange-plus markup and an all-in flat rate are different measures. A calculator cannot establish equipment transfer eligibility, underwriting approval, funding schedules or app compatibility.
