Move your business with a payment cutover plan.
Coordinate the provider, network, POS devices and ordering details before the first sale at the new location. Clarify ownership of each step and the tests required before go-live.
Plan My Payment CutoverStart with your requirements. Confirm the written scope before committing.
Moving the same business is different from buying one.
If the legal owner or entity is changing, tell the provider before treating the project as an address update. If the same business is relocating, the provider still needs to confirm account, location and device requirements. A terminal working at the old shop does not prove the new site is ready.
Process Rite helps organize the move around responsibilities: account changes, internet and power, device placement, ordering channels, testing and first-day reconciliation. Start with the move date and identify who can approve each step.
Assign responsibilities before equipment moves.
| Workstream | Confirm before the move |
|---|---|
| Provider and account | Who approves location updates, which account/device changes are needed and whether application review is required. |
| Internet and power | Who supplies and tests network coverage, cabling, counter power and printer connections at the new site. |
| Customer details | Who updates receipts, supported ordering locations, pickup instructions, hours, website links and third-party listings. |
| Tax settings | Your accountant or adviser confirms the correct treatment; assign who applies and checks approved settings. |
| Equipment and apps | Inventory exact models, accessories, ownership, subscriptions and setup dependencies. Confirm transport and installation responsibility. |
Use a cutover plan with a clear go-live decision.
- Before disconnecting: retain the permitted reports and configuration records you need. Confirm outstanding orders, batches and support contacts with the provider; restrict access to authorized staff.
- Prepare the new premises: test the actual connection and power where checkout and printers will operate. A test from another room is not enough.
- Agree the sequence: identify when ordering channels change, when devices move and who approves go-live. Confirm provider requirements before activation changes.
- Test the workflow: follow the provider’s approved payment testing procedure. Check receipts, taxes, printers, discounts, authorized voids/refunds, roles and closing reports.
- Approve or stop: record open issues, their owners and the agreed fallback. Escalate critical dependencies before normal trade.
- After the first day: reconcile closeout and deposit, check online pickup information and confirm the support route available to staff.
This sequence does not promise zero downtime or a universal device-transfer procedure. Provider approval, network work and third-party systems can affect the schedule.
Plan My Payment CutoverTest the journey your customer actually takes.
| Operation | Acceptance checks |
|---|---|
| Bagel shop or café | Build an order with modifiers, route the kitchen ticket, check pickup instructions and verify the receipt location. |
| Retail store | Scan real item variants, check a discount and authorized return, and compare closeout to the test activity. |
| Service business | Check supported invoices or payment links, business contact details and your intended deposit/balance workflow. |
| Online ordering | Confirm which location receives the order, how staff find it, what the customer sees and who resolves a failed handoff. |
Use approved test methods. Keep customer records, payment data and account credentials out of public checklists and this enquiry form. Confirm export and data-handling requirements directly with the provider.
Put the move into a one-page handoff.
List old and new towns, the move date, current provider, device models, network contact, menu or inventory owner and go-live approver. Mark dependencies ready, waiting or blocked. Give each open item one owner and an agreed next step.
Separate the initial review from installation, cabling, replacement equipment, menu work and on-site support. Confirm included and excluded work, timing and charges before scheduling. If equipment needs replacement, request a complete quote.
For an ownership change, use the Clover takeover checklist. For general implementation, read the POS deployment process.
Questions before you request a review
Can I unplug the POS and reconnect it at the new shop?
Do not assume that is the whole move. Confirm provider location requirements, network/device setup and ordering or printer dependencies first.
Will I need another merchant account?
That depends on the provider, entity and location arrangement. Disclose ownership or entity changes and get the provider’s requirements directly.
Can you guarantee no downtime?
No. Define dependencies, tests, a go-live decision and an agreed fallback. An enquiry is not a confirmed installation booking.
Does moving include staff retraining?
That can be useful when the layout or workflow changes, but it needs to be part of the agreed scope. Identify the roles and tasks that need a refresher.
