Start with the actual operating problem.
A terminal being online is only one part of a working checkout. A kitchen printer, ordering app or integrated POS can rely on a separate connection or service. Describe what fails, where it fails and which other functions continue to work.
Start with the device and installation documentation supplied for your exact configuration. Have the responsible installer or network provider verify requirements. Do not open firewall access, share credentials or change network protections based on a generic checklist.

Confirm the requirements in writing.
| Decision | What to confirm |
|---|---|
| Device path | Record model/generation, connection type, physical position, power and whether other devices on that path have the same symptoms. |
| Printer or accessory | Test the actual route from an order to its output; distinguish local connection issues from application routing. |
| Online channel | Confirm that an incoming order reaches the right location and staff can identify it even during busy periods. |
| Support ownership | Name the internet/network contact, POS installer, app vendor and payment provider; define the first escalation step. |
Use a review sequence with a named owner.
- Describe the failure with time, affected function and non-sensitive error text.
- Compare the exact planned locations for checkout and peripherals; test their real paths.
- Use approved test methods for sale, receipt, printer, correction and closing reports.
- Confirm any backup connection, its required plan and what behavior has actually been tested.
- Document recovery, unresolved queued activity and reconciliation after restoration.

Attach the unresolved items to your enquiry. These selections describe your requirements; they do not confirm eligibility, integration or a diagnosis.
Offline acceptance is not the same as real-time authorization. Eligibility and behavior vary by device, app, integration and provider settings; a later decline or loss can remain the merchant’s risk. See Clover offline-payment documentation. No universal offline or automatic failover guarantee is made.
